Add SmartArt to a slide? ›

Select Insert > SmartArt > Picture. Select the SmartArt you want and select OK. Select the picture icon and find your image, like From a File or Online Pictures. Microsoft 365 customers can also search Stock Images and Icons.

Insert a SmartArt graphic and add text to it

On the Insert tab, select SmartArt. On the dropdown menu, select the layout that you want. The graphic is inserted on your slide. A text editor appears on the left of the graphic.

Select Home > Convert to SmartArt. Select More SmartArt Graphics and then select Picture. Select the SmartArt you want and select OK.

Select Insert > SmartArt. On the left, select the type of layout you want. Select an option and select OK.

To insert a box one level above the selected box, click Add Shape Above. The new box takes the position of the selected box, and the selected box and all the boxes directly below it (each) are demoted one level. To insert a box one level below the selected box, click Add Shape Below.

Select Home > Convert to SmartArt. Select More SmartArt Graphics and then select Picture. Select the SmartArt you want and select OK. To insert a picture, select the picture icon, go to where your picture is located, and then select it.

A SmartArt graphic is a visual representation of information and ideas, and a chart is a visual illustration of numeric values or data. Basically, SmartArt graphics are designed for text and charts are designed for numbers. Use the information below to decide when to use a SmartArt graphic and when to use a chart.

On the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click SmartArt. In the Choose a SmartArt Graphic gallery, click Hierarchy, and then double-click a hierarchy layout (such as Horizontal Hierarchy).

Layout types. The Choose a SmartArt Graphic gallery displays all available layouts broken into eleven different types — All, List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, Relationship, Matrix, Pyramid, Picture, Office.com, and Other. (The Office.com type shows additional layouts available on Office.com.

SmartArt refers to the range of graphics available in Word that you can use to create diagrams, such as flow charts, process charts, organisation charts, and the like. Select a SmartArt graphic from the gallery and then customise it to suit your needs.

You can also insert a SmartArt graphic by clicking the Insert SmartArt command in the placeholder, if the slide layout includes a content placeholder. The graphic will appear on the slide, and two new SmartArt Tools tabs -- Design and Format -- will appear on the Ribbon.

On the Insert tab of the ribbon, click SmartArt, and then point at Process. In the menu of categories that appears, point at Process and then select a layout. After the flow chart is added to your slide, replace the [Text] placeholders with the steps in your flow chart.

In the Master Layout group, click the arrow next to Insert Placeholder, and then click the type of placeholder you want to insert. Options are for Content, Content (Vertical), Text, Text (Vertical), Picture, Chart, Table, SmartArt, Media, and Online Image.
